Details of the Trip
Delhi / Jaipur / Pushkar / Agra
Day 1: Delhi
Arrive in Delhi, the capital of India, and receive a warm welcome at the airport. Transfer to your hotel, check in, freshen up, and have lunch (not included). In the afternoon, explore Old Delhi, starting with Raj Ghat (the memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi) and Jama Masjid (India’s largest mosque). Move on to New Delhi, visiting Qutab Minar, a fine example of early Muslim and Afghan architecture in India. Admire the tomb of Emperor Humayun (Maqbaera e Humayun), a necropolis of the Mughal dynasty. Pass by the Rastrapathi Bhawan (Presidential residence) and the Indian Parliament. Stop for a photo at India Gate, the famous Indian war memorial arch. Conclude your Delhi tour with a visit to Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, a vibrant Sikh temple known for its communal kitchen.

Day 2: Delhi to Jaipur
After breakfast, depart for Jaipur, the Pink City (280 km, approx. 5 hours). Arrive and check into your hotel.

Day 3: Jaipur
After breakfast, explore Jaipur, the city of ancient Rajput Maharajas. Visit the magnificent Amber Fort, perched on a hill overlooking Maota Lake and the Delhi road. This fort, a prime example of Rajput architecture, houses palaces like the Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace), gardens such as Zenana Bagh (Women’s Garden), and temples like the Jagat Shiromani Temple. You can reach the fort by walking (10 minutes), vehicle, or on elephant back (subject to availability).
After lunch (own expense), visit the City Palace complex, home to various museums displaying Mughal costumes, weapons, and miniatures. Explore Jantar Mantar, the largest stone observatory in the world, and Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds), built in the 18th century with countless windows and balconies for royal women to observe street processions without being seen.
Day 4: Jaipur to Pushkar
After breakfast, depart for Pushkar (150 km, approx. 3 hours), a charming village built around a sacred lake and known for its annual camel fair. Pushkar is dedicated to the God Brahma, and the only Brahma temple in India is located here, attracting pilgrims year-round. Explore the village with its blue houses, small palaces, and the sacred lake populated by large fish and turtles that are forbidden to catch. The village is tranquil outside the festival period, attracting backpackers from around the world, especially in winter. The main street leading to the Brahma temple is lined with shops, and the village resonates with prayers, conch shells, and bells from its 430 temples. During the full moon of Kartik (October-November), the village’s population swells to over 100,000 for the camel fair, turning into a large market for local crafts.

Day 6: Pushkar to Agra via Fatehpur Sikri
After an early breakfast, depart for Agra, stopping at Fatehpur Sikri (350 km, approx. 6 hours), the 16th-century capital of the Mughal Empire, blending Hindu and Muslim architecture. Built by Emperor Akbar in gratitude to Saint Sheikh Salim Chishti, Fatehpur Sikri attracts devotees who tie threads to the ‘Wish Pillar’ hoping their wishes will come true.
After lunch (own expense), continue to Agra (40 km, approx. 50 minutes), home to the world-famous Taj Mahal. Upon arrival, visit the Taj Mahal, an extravagant display of love built by Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is considered the eighth wonder of the world.
End the day with a visit to the splendid Red Fort, with its massive pink sandstone walls, encapsulating palaces, gardens, ponds, and mosques. Founded by Akbar, it marks the birth of the Mughal imperial style. Shah Jahan was imprisoned here by his son, and from his cell, he could admire the Taj Mahal, the tomb of his beloved wife.
